Google+ invitations

Do we need Google+ invitation to create Google+ account ? Is it mandatory ?

Yes Google+ invitation is mandatory.

Google+ product is in market on field trails.Field trails is just the preliminary test on live which helps Google+ project team to estimate the rules, traffic and performance of their product. Only limited number of users who are invited can only create their Google+ account.
